Hello spa enthusiast, or idealist! We know you are busy, so first of all, we wanted to thank you for clicking into this article with the few precious free moments of your day. How do we know you are busy? Because we are all
busy. Hustling is simply the status quo, no matter which stage you are at in your life.
That’s why we understand the eye roll you sometimes (or often) have when you read articles telling you to prioritize self care. We get the snort of exasperation that sneaks out when someone tells you to take care of yourself instead of everyone else. Who has time to take hours out of their day each day—or even a few times a week—to do something for themselves?
Sometimes it’s just not possible to take more than a few minutes for ourselves to rejuvenate and refuel from our busy schedules. That’s why we want to share our five-minute self care ideas.
Sometimes the outside world can crescendo into a loud, disruptive hum. It seems like everyone needs you at once—your boss, significant other, kids or even pets. While you have become a master multi-tasker, it’s understandable to need a dang break!
When that hum overwhelms you, get up and go for a five-minute walk. It’ll give you time to get out of the situation at hand and into some much-needed fresh air. This small break will create space in your head, physical distance from your problems and give you an opportunity to realign yourself to tackle the rest of the day.
Breathe. Such an original recommendation, right? There’s a reason this idea is repeated in basically every self care article. As naturally as breathing should come to all of us, in times of stress, we often lose control of it. When we are nervous and upset, our breathing quickens and shallows out, making everything seem more hectic and overwhelming. However, that process can be reversed to your advantage. If you slow down and deepen your breathing, you’ll be able to slow your body and mind to take on anything the world throws at you.
Meditation is another self care practice often shared in these types of articles. It has been scientifically proven to help with mood, focus, difficult emotions and simply helping navigate stressful situations.
We’re probably biased, but we love a good facial for some self care. Facials enhance skin appearance and simply help you feel refreshed. While we offer 50-minute
professional facials, we know it’s not always possible to get one with everyones’ busy schedules and tight budgets.
However, homemade facials are also an option if you’re looking for something quick and inexpensive. Facials can be made from household items such as honey, oats, milk and even off-the-wall ingredients such as mayonnaise. A quick Google search will open up a world of possibilities if you’re interested in a quick homemade facial.
Much of the time, five minutes are all you have for self care practices. However, if you find yourself with extra time (gasp!),
