Part of the spa experience is the wonderful and relaxing aroma. You can recreate that sense of tranquility right at home with essential oils. If you’re unfamiliar with these aromatic oils, keep reading for a few of the basics!

Benefits of Essential Oils

The popularity of essential oils today is more than just a fad. There are proven therapeutic uses of many essential oils. They are a great way to help you relax and give you that spa feeling from home. We even use them in some of our spa and in our products. You can try them at home with diffusers, in skincare and many other ways to help get the same effects.

Soothing Essential Oils

There are many, many different “flavors” of essential oils. Here are a few of the most popular:

Lavender
One of the most popular and easy to find essential oils, lavender is known for relaxation. It slows the central nervous system and soothes anxiety. It gives you a calm and peaceful feeling.

Eucalyptus
It’s known for its antimicrobial properties and its ability to kill and ward of insects. Not a bad oil to have around this time of year! But one of the best things about eucalyptus is its benefits for respiratory health. Eucalyptus can help alleviate coughs and congestion as well as cool and soothe nasal passages.

Chamomile
A much beloved oil, chamomile is often noted for its ability to help us relax, especially when it’s time for bed. Its scent promotes a mild sedative that soothes anxiety and helps prepare your mind for sleep and relaxation. It’s also known for being anti-inflammatory.

Stimulating and Relaxing Essential Oils

While some scents help us unwind, others are better-known for their ability to energize. Here are a few essential oils to keep in mind.

Peppermint
Peppermint can be great for relaxation, but not in the quiet, sleepy way of chamomile. Peppermint actually stimulates healthy brain functioning which can alleviate stress and anxiety. If you want to feel relaxed but keep moving, peppermint oil is a great choice!

Jasmine
This is another oil that manages to relax you via stimulation. It has been used as a sleep aid in the past, not because it makes you sleepy, but because of the effect it has on your mood. It can increase your breathing rate and alertness. This in turn will elevate your mood. It’s easier to sleep or be active when your in a better state of mind.
