The heightened heartbeat, pressure in your chest and panic in your stomach—anxiety can feel debilitating. It sneaks up at the most inconvenient of times and makes itself at home way past its welcome.
Right now, many are feeling the effects of anxiety. We are living day to day in uncertainty about our jobs, future plans and ability to do much of anything outside of the house. That’s why we want to share our tips for coping with anxiety.
You’re working through your to-do list for the day, and BAM, anxiety hits. The first reaction of many is to get angry at the fact they’re feeling anxiety, but it’s important to remember that it’s something everyone experiences. According to
Medical News Today, it’s a normal emotion, as is joy and pity, for example.
With that in mind, try to be kind to yourself and even your anxiety. It’s easier said than done, but it’s really just trying to protect you from a perceived threat (even when it’s not there). Getting angry at yourself and your emotions will make you feel worse. Instead, try being kind to yourself.
Meditation is something everyone seems to recommend, so before you roll your eyes, hear us out. With anxiety, your mind and breathing can feel like they are running a million miles an hour. That’s why meditation is so helpful—it helps you focus on your breathing. If you can get control over your breathing, it can help you gain control over your racing mind.
A few helpful meditation apps include
Headspace,
Buddhify and
Calm.
Self-care means something different for everyone. Maybe for you it means a hot bath with a good book or applying a
facial. It could mean a home
manicure and pedicure
or spending the day baking your favorite pastries. Do whatever makes you happy, just so you feel good. There’s no other reason you need to give, because giving yourself that happy fuel is reason enough.
