Beauty and Style Trends for 2020 | Sewickley Spa

The hottest looks are changing all the time, and it’s hard to keep up. 2020 is no exception, and is set to take inspiration from decades past, popular colors and patterns from nature. Take a glimpse at popular beauty and style trends for 2020.

Hair

Let’s look at the 2020 style forecast from head to toe. Fashion-forward hairstyles are taking their inspiration from across the decades in a big way, especially the 80s and 90s.

  • Scrunchies - Your favorite puffy hair ties started making a resurgence in the last few years, and they’ll be in the limelight again this year and beyond. Wear your side ponytail with pride, adorned with either a traditional or supersized scrunchie, and party like it’s 1988.
  • Bob Haircut - “Mulder, it’s me.” Reemerging hairstyles may have you thinking about mid-90s pop culture this year, with short bobs taking center stage. A versatile look, bob haircuts can be styled with a simple center or slight side part, and take on a casual messy look or straightened and polished one.
Wait. What decade is this? It doesn’t matter where the beauty and style trends for 2020 came from, just enjoy breaking out your old gear to complement the new ‘do.

Makeup and Nails

2020 will see makeup and nail trends taken to extremes. From natural makeup looks to striking nails, make a statement this year.

  • Less is More - Because you’ll already be making your eyes pop and pulling in the focus of everyone around you, try for a simpler approach with the rest of your face. Sheer, natural highlighting products will provide a subtle glow for your skin, while lighter foundations give coverage without requiring too much product.
  • Blush - Maybe you’ve been wearing it all along, or perhaps it was too old school, but blush is officially popular again, so add it to your makeup arsenal. What’s fun about it is that depending on how you apply it, blush creates either flirty or dramatic looks, Take liquid blush for example: it’s easy to work with and is more subdued (and flirty) on its own. You can also use the combined powers of liquid and a powder blush overlay for a more dramatic look.
  • Snakeskin and Metallics - There will never be a shortage of manicure inspiration. 2020 will see an uptick in the popularity of divergent styles. For a funky flair, consider trying a snakeskin effect. Or for a subtle flash of brilliance, metallic hues like rose and platinum are winners, too.
Finally, an excuse to wear less makeup! Let your natural beauty shine in the new year, enhancing it with simple touches like a quality manicure.

Fashion

Fashion fortune tellers (i.e. designers) are telling us that puffy sleeves and polka dots are in our future, but so are a few other major trends. Color and material are certain to be major players.

  • Pantone Color of 2020 - Blue is the hue for you in the year ahead. Pantone selected classic blue as the Color of the Year, noting that it’s a shade associated with reliability and dependability. Style experts agree that the color will feature prominently across fashion—from tops and pants to accessories.
  • Leather - Gone are the days of the simple black leather jacket. In 2020, expect leather to take center stage as a choice material for shirts, pants and shorts as well as becoming available in a wider variety of colors.
Choosing the right wardrobe for the coming year is simple when you follow a few of the hottest trends.
