One of the great things about spring and summer is being able to trade in our winter boots for chic, fun sandals. However, this also means our feet are now on full display. That being said, after being hidden all winter, our feet may not be looking their best and could probably use some love and care. No worries though. By following our tips below, you will surely be on your way to pretty and sandal-ready feet.

Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate

Ridding your feet of its dead, dry skin is the first step to getting them ready for sandals. Plan to exfoliate about once every two weeks to treat mild calluses, or more often for heavy to severe cases. Depending on your personal preference, this can be achieved with either a pumice stone or an exfoliating scrub.

Try a Heavy-Duty Moisturizer

Now that your feet are exfoliated and primed, it’s important to retain your feet’s moisture to prevent your skin from drying out. When applying lotion, make sure to focus on areas prone to cracking or forming calluses (like your heel). If you find your skin requires some extra attention, try covering your feet with socks after you apply your moisturizer. This will ensure you really lock in that moisture.

Invest in Nail & Cuticle Care

This step is especially essential if you plan on rocking a bright summer polish. Using a nail clipper and file, shape your nails to their desired shape, whether that be square, round or somewhere in between. After, you can further prepare your nails by pushing your cuticles back. Note: It is important not to actually trim your cuticles because this can lead to nail fungus or even infection. Instead, moisturize the cuticle with an oil or cuticle cream and gently push them back toward the base of your nail.
